The Washington Commanders unveiled new uniforms and an alternate helmet, celebrating their Super Bowl-era look. While fans praised the changes, the Association on American Indian Affairs criticized the new logo as inappropriate.

When the Washington Commanders unveiled their new permanent uniforms last week, they also included new alternates and a new alternate helmet. The uniforms were a nod to the franchise's past, bringing back the Super Bowl-era uniforms. However, Washington took it a step further with the new logo, which featured the current block "W," but with a spear going through it.
Almost everyone loved the uniforms. Fans were ecstatic with the changes. But when we say almost everyone, well, there is someone out there who will complain about everything. That's precisely what happened when the Association on American Indian Affairs called Washington's logo "disappointing and inappropriate."
The statement also added, "We are not your mascot."
The Commanders wisely ignored the comments, but what did the NFL think?
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday in preparation for the 2026 NFL Draft, where Scott Abraham of ABC 7 in Washington, D.C., caught up with him to ask his thoughts on the Commanders' changes.
"(Owner) Josh (Harris) has been very disciplined and focused on making sure they bring the tradition and history of the franchise into everything they do," Goodell said. "I think you'll see it in the stadium, I think you'll see it in how as he evolves different ways of marketing and uniforms, I think it’s a great way to do it. Because I think there is a lot of history and tradition and a lot of emotion that's attached to that that could be very positive."
There you have it. The league approves, as it should.
