NFL draft analyst Chad Reuter predicts Ty Simpson will be selected by the New York Jets at No. 16 in the upcoming draft. The Jets are keen on addressing their quarterback needs with this pick.
In the latest mock draft by an NFL draft analyst, Chad Reuter on NFL.com, Ty Simpson will go in the middle of the first round to the New York Jets at No. 16.
The Jets are very high on Simpson, but some wondered if they would be bold enough to take him in the first round next week, and according to Reuter, it looks like they are.
"Simpson's inconsistency during his only year as a starter in college is well-documented. However, the Jets might as well take a chance on addressing their need for a long-term answer at quarterback. They can still find good value at other positions with four of the top 50 picks, including Nos. 33 and No. 44 overall in Round 2."
If the Jets don't take him early, the plan, according to some, was to grab him early in the second round with the No. 33 pick of the draft. But many feel Simpson won't be there long in the first round.
Another team still interested is the Cleveland Browns. General Manager Andrew Berry said they enjoyed their time with Simpson.
“[S]on of a coach, really smart, very driven, he’s physically talented,” Berry said, via transcript from the team. “He has a very unique college journey, in terms of coming in as a five-star and then really having to wait his turn behind two pretty talented quarterbacks [in] Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe before getting his chance under center. And he did a great job maximizing it.
“So, we’ve really enjoyed our time with Ty.”
If Simpson is drafted by the Jets, it will be the fourth Alabama quarterback in their history to be taken by the franchise. They drafted, of course, Joe Namath, Richard Todd, and Greg McElroy; Simpson would be the fourth Alabama QB.

Ty Simpson is considered a potential pick for the Jets at No. 16 due to their need for a long-term quarterback solution, despite his inconsistency in college.
In addition to the No. 16 pick, the Jets have four of the top 50 picks, including No. 33 and No. 44 in Round 2.
Concerns about Ty Simpson include his inconsistency during his only year as a starter in college, which has been well-documented.
