NFL draft: Early grade for new Broncos LB Red Murdock

The Denver Broncos used the final pick of the 2026 NFL draft to select Buffalo linebacker Red Murdock on Saturday evening.

Despite holding the dubious title of "Mr. Irrelevant," Murdock could be one of the more relevant last picks in recent memory. Murdock (6-1, 242 pounds) played in 42 college games, recording 364 total tackles (168 solo, 196 assisted), 39.5 tackles for loss, nine sacks and one interception. However, Murdock's claim to fame was his ability to knock the football to the ground. Murdock set an NCAA record for forced fumbles (17), breaking the record of former Buffalo Bull and NFL all-star Khalil Mack.

In an instant, Broncos fans can see the tackling ability of Alex Singleton, who posted 135 tackles in 2025 (Murdock had 142 in 2025), combined with the fumble-inducing habits of the likes of Von Miller or Nik Bonitto.
