The Washington Commanders have unveiled their new uniforms, which pay homage to the franchise's history while updating their look. The changes include a return to glossy helmets and revamped black alternates, receiving mostly positive reactions from fans.
The Washington Commanders have new uniforms. Well, they're old, but new again. Washington revealed its permanent new uniforms on Wednesday, with a nod to the franchise's past. Gone are the last remnants of the horrible February 2022 rebranding. Even the black alternates that debuted in 2022 were overhauled, too. The Commanders first debuted the old look last season with white jerseys and burgundy pants for three home games. They were worn for three home games, with indications that they would be a more permanent look in 2026. Washington also brought back the burgundy jerseys and white pants as a part of the new, permanent look. The helmets return to their old glossy look, rather than the matte look from the last four seasons. As far as the black alternates, they are completely different. They no longer look like cheap Steelers knockoffs. And the helmet now features the "W" logo with a spear.

Also, they are awesome. I love this. pic.twitter.com/wVAzMIW8LL
— Grant Paulsen (@GrantPaulsen) April 15, 2026 As expected, the Super Bowl Retros returned, with a simplistic black that matches the other two.
The black jerseys are much improved off of the last iteration.
I'm also pumped that the tri-stripe is here to stay, with pant stripes.
Regarding the black helmet. It's new, so I…

— Jubs09 ⓦ (@JamesJubane) April 15, 2026 The Harris group is in the ultimate no win situation. They’re trying to thread the Native American needle without upsetting the woke crowd too much. All while the laziest hot take merchants in the game will trash everything new they see as “AI Slop”. The black helmet looks great.

The alternates don’t look like the Steelers. The spear through the W looks incredible.

— LJ 🎩🐷 (@MadHatter\_LJ) April 15, 2026 As a card-carrying member of Team Spear, thrilled to see it being worked in by the Commanders. Hoping this is a path toward future spear helmet primaries.
Key is making the spear the star of the show. Here, it's overwhelmed by the W and loses focus to the stripe. pic.twitter.com/8dE6DnZUGX

Getting back to the basics!!!
🔥🔥🔥
— Will Compton (@\_willcompton) April 15, 2026 Much cleaner, much nicer. Little part of me thought they might do away with the block W and go spear across all jerseys/helmets but I think it looks fine. Combining the old school/new school rarely works but I think this is as good as it can get.
— Eric Nathan (@BarstoolNate) April 15, 2026 Not coincidentally: The uniforms do not say Commanders at all.
Brilliant.
— Grant Paulsen (@GrantPaulsen) April 15, 2026 So simple and so clean.
No more ugly ass “ Commanders “ on the front.
