Oregon Ducks defeated Washington 6-4, scoring back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning. Burke-Lee Mabeus hit a three-run homer, followed by a solo shot from Naulivou Lauaki Jr.
The Oregon Ducks hit back-to-back home runs in the eighth to take a two-run lead and held on to win 6-4 over Washington on Friday night at Husky Ballpark in Seattle.
With Oregon trailing 4-2 in the eighth, catcher Burke-Lee Mabeus hit a three-run homer to right, scoring second baseman Ryan Cooney and right fielder Angel Laya to put the Ducks ahead 5-4. Designated hitter Naulivou Lauaki Jr. followed with a solo shot, extending the Ducks’ lead to 6-4.
Reliever Gabe Howard (1-0) earned the victory for his work in the seventh inning. Tanner Bradley pitched the final two innings to earn his first save of the season in 23 appearances.
With this victory, Oregon (34-11, 16-6 Big Ten Conference) has won seven consecutive games.
Washington took a 3-1 lead after one inning and then added a fourth run in the second against Oregon starter Will Sanford, who struck out five in 3 1/2 innings.
Lauaki went 3-for-4 with two RBI. His RBI single in the fourth scored Laya, cutting Washington’s lead to 4-2.
Laya went 2-for-5 and scored twice.
UP NEXT
The three-game series against the Huskies (20-25, 9-13) continues with a 7 p.m. game Saturday and concludes with a 1 p.m. game Sunday.
