No. 14 Oklahoma baseball team defeated Missouri 4-0, marking their fourth win in five SEC games. The victory improved Oklahoma's record above .500 in SEC play as they prepare for challenging upcoming series.
The No. 14 Oklahoma baseball team is officially on a roll.
OU beat Missouri, 4-0, on Saturday, a win that provided the Sooners with four wins in its last five Southeastern Conference games. Most importantly, it put Oklahoma above .500 in SEC play with a final game against Mizzou and four final SEC series to go. Pocketing wins will be especially important considering those final four sets come against Auburn, Florida, Arkansas and Tennessee, four teams that will also make the NCAA Tournament.
In the meantime, OU can only win the ones in front of it and the Sooners did so with ease Saturday.
Missouri managed just two hits in the game, both singles, and Oklahoma pitchers didn't give them much in the way of free passes, either, allowing just three walks. Cameron Johnson earned the victory with 5 1/3 innings, striking out five and giving up the two hits and one of the base-on-balls.
His offense did enough, even if it wasn't spectacular. Oklahoma scored in three straight innings - the second, third and fourth - to take early control.
Deitan LaChance started things with a solo home run. Brendan Brock hit an RBI single and Camden Johnson plated a run on a sacrifice fly in the third inning. And Jaxon Willits doubled home a run in the fourth to provide the Sooners with everything they'd need.
LaChance and Willits were the only two Oklahoma players with more than a single hit, though only one of the nine starters failed to provide any statistics. Everyone but Alec Blair either picked up a knock, a walk or a sacrifice.
The series finale between the two former Big 12 rivals is set for Sunday at 2 p.m. Oklahoma will follow that game with a one-off game against Oral Roberts at home on Tuesday before traveling to Auburn back in SEC play next weekend.
