Isa Torres has been named a top 25 finalist for the USA Softball National Player of the Year award for the second consecutive year, looking to become the first Seminole to win the award since Lacey Waldrop in 2014:
Torres has proven to be one of the top hitters in the country this season as she leads the country with a .558 batting average with 16 home runs and 50 RBI. Torres broke the NCAA record as she recorded 16 consecutive hits in 16 at-bats from March 6-20. During that same time, Torres also reached safely in 23 consecutive plate appearances which was the third-longest streak in NCAA history.
Torres is on pace to break her own school record for batting average (.432) and is also on pace to break the school record for hits (99) and slugging percentage (.942) and is within striking distance of the school record for home runs (24).
Torres has not just been hitting for average though as the junior has pounded 16 home runs which is tied for the sixth-most in FSU history. Only Jessi Warren and Maddie OâBrien have hit more than 16 home runs in the Garnet and Gold.
Offense is not the only place that Torres shines as she is statistically the best infielder in the entire country. Torres has not committed an error in 145 chances this season and is the only middle infielder in the country to not have an error in 125 or more chances. No middle infielder besides Torres has fewer than three errors.
