Florida State women’s basketball signed sophomore transfer forward Joy Egbuna from Alabama on Sunday. A four-star recruit out of Texas, Egbuna appeared in 17 games for the Crimson Tide as a freshman, including three in the SEC Tournament:
During her freshman season at Alabama, Egbuna appeared in 17 games, including three during the Crimson Tide’s run in the 2026 SEC Tournament as the 11th-seed. Egbuna saw extended minutes in the quarterfinal against third-seeded Texas, where she grabbed six rebounds, which was a season best. She turned in a career high of five points against Vanderbilt in the regular season, helping Alabama to a 24-11 record and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
A native of Arlington, Texas, Egbuna was recognized as an ESPNW four-star recruit, ranked No. 97 by ESPNW, and was listed in the BTN Scouting 150 as No. 85. She also held the No. 55 spot in the All Stars Girls Report and was ranked No. 8 in Texas by the Premier Basketball Report. Egbuna was named First Team All-District 11-6A and received All-Region honors from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches for the 2023-2024 season. At Lake Ridge High School, she set a school record for blocks in a single season with 44 and averaged 10.4 points and 13.6 rebounds per game.
In addition to her high school accolades, Egbuna played on the P24 Circuit for Team Moriah Jefferson 17U, under the guidance of coach Tez Dumars. She played her senior season of high school at Faith Family Academy, coached by Andrea Robinson. Egbuna also participated in the USA Basketball Games during the 2020-2021 period.
Egbuna joins Chamiah Francis, Asia Lee, Kennedy Loux, Missy Odom and Morgan Stewart in the signing class.
No. 25 Florida State men’s golf heads to Charlottesville this week to close out its regular season at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial at Birdwood Golf Course on Apr. 13-14:
The Seminoles will be up against three other top-25 teams and four ACC programs, including second-ranked Virginia, who is the host. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., and finish the tournament on Tuesday, playing 18.
Florida State took home the team title in 2025, at 13-under, 839. Luke Clanton was the champion at 5-under, 208, followed by Gray Albright in second place at 3-under, 210.
Florida State is led by Tyler Weaver, who is coming off a victory at the Valspar Championship. Weaver was named the ACC Co-Golfer of the Month for March after shooting 15-under, 198, behind rounds of 65, 66 and 67 at the Floridian Golf Club. Weaver’s total tied for the third lowest in program history. His victory moved him to sixth in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, the highest rank of his career. The Seminoles tied for fifth at the Valspar, at 3-under, 228, finishing ahead of eight ranked teams.

No. 20/23 Florida State track and field wrapped up the Dick Roberts Seminole Invite at Mike Long Track over the weekend:
Lorelai Filosa opened the competition in the women’s high jump, capturing her first victory of the season with a mark of 1.62 meters. Cooper Crowell finished next in the men’s hammer throw with a victory of his own for the first time this season after a mark of 56.78 meters.
Zianna Curtis took first in the women’s hammer throw with a new personal best and eighth-farthest throw in program history with a mark of 53.98 meters.
Nafy Thiam won the women’s shot put with a throw of 15.87 meters, followed by teammate Kaitlyn Bullock at 14.58 meters. The women’s 4×100 consisting of Lucy May Sleeman, Shenese Walker, Liana Tyson and Micayah Holland placed first with a time of 43.53.
Despiro Wray was victorious in the men’s shot put for the second time this season after tossing a mark of 17.89 meters. Justin Woulard concluded the first day for Florida State in the men’s long jump, placing first overall at 7.44 meters.
The No. 20/23 Florida State track and field teams wrapped up the final day of competition of the Dick Roberts Seminole Invite at the Mike Long Track on Saturday.
Florida State took the top three spots in the men’s 110-meter hurdles to begin the running portion after Zach Extine placed first with the seventh-fastest time in program history at 13.61. Andre Korbmacher followed in second at 13.71, while Tyson Williams opened his season in third with a time of 14.18.
The NCAA Indoor 60-meter National Champion, Shenese Walker, opened her individual season in the 200 with a win with a time of 22.77.
Zianna Curtis led the Seminoles in the women’s discus, finishing in second with a mark of 49.60 meters. Kaitlyn Bullock placed third at 48.05, while Nafy Thiam captured fourth with a new personal best of 46.76.
Durian Moss was victorious for the first time this season in the 100 meters with a time of 10.21; Jaiden Rollins rounded out the competition for Florida State in fifth at 10.46.
The Seminoles swept the top four spots in the men’s 400. Braeden Ofosu-Kwarteng led the way in first at 46.34. Curtis Bain placed second with a new personal best of 47.14, followed by Amare Williams in third at 47.37. Adrian Cardero rounded out the fourth spot at 47.81.
Suus Altorf highlighted the women’s distance after placing first with a new personal best and the fifth-fastest time in program history at 2:03.00. Nicole Dinan placed second at 2:12.56, followed by Regan Morrall in third at 2:12.94.
Shmar Reid captured his third consecutive win in the men’s discus with a mark of 61.74 meters. Despiro Wray placed third with a new personal best of 47.82 meters.
Kayla Pinkard opened her junior season in the women’s triple jump, winning with the 10th-farthest mark in program history at 13.11 meters. Ana Bulat placed second at 12.63 meters; Oluwadara Soremi finished in third at 12.58 meters.
Ella Menke captured her second consecutive victory this season after winning the women’s 1,500 with a new personal best time of 4:25.89. Avery Cahoon placed third at 4:30.87, Oakley Olson followed in fourth with a new personal best of 4:31.10.
Hudson Betts ran his first race as a Seminole, placing first in the men’s 1,500 at 3:48.55. Parker Adams was runner-up with a personal best of 3:51.97. Finn Thomas earned a new career best with a time of 3:54.39, finishing fourth.
The men’s 4×400 relay consisting of Durian Moss, British Wilkerson, Tyler Azcano and Braeden Ofosu-Kwarteng concluded the meet with a win at 3:08.93.
Florida State will return to Gainesville for the Tom Jones Invite on April 17-18.
No. 55 Florida State men’s tennis fell 4-3 to No. 43 Miami on Friday in its regular season finale, with Azariah Rusher and Mohammad Alkotop each winning in singles:
Florida State secured two doubles victories on courts one and three for the early lead. Gabor Hornung and Luis Felipe Miguel won their third straight match as a pair after defeating Serra Sanchez and Jules Garot, 6-3. Miami came back to even the score after defeating the Seminoles’ Justin Lyons and Mohammad Alkotop, 6-2. No. 65 Jan Sebesta and Erik Schiessl responded with a win on court one, 6-2, over No. 33 Mehdi Sadaoui and Jakub Kroslak to clinch the doubles point.
The Seminoles got off to a strong start in singles on court five as Alkotop took down Sadaoui in a two-set battle. Azariah Rusher then defeated Rafael Segado, 6-1, 7-5, to boost Florida State’s lead to 3-0. Miami found an advantage on court six as Lyons fell to Garot, 7-6 (5), 6-2. Miami then made quick work on courts two and three to tie the match, leaving all eyes on the top position. No. 106 Miguel dropped the first set, before regaining momentum to force a third set, but ultimately fell in the final game.
Florida State turns its attention toward the ACC Men’s Tennis Championship in Cary, North Carolina, from April 15-19.
FSU women’s tennis closed its regular season on Senior Day Sunday, falling 4-0 to No. 5 North Carolina:
On Court 1 doubles, Eva Shaw and Laura Putz faced the No. 5-ranked duo of Reese Brantmeier and Alanis Hamilton. After falling behind 2-1, the Seminole pair responded with a 3-2 lead. UNC went on to win the next two games as Shaw and Putz battled back again to even the score at 4-4, but the Tar Heels claimed the final two games to secure a 6-4 win. North Carolina also earned victories on Courts 2 and 3 to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, Putz earned a 6-4 first-set win over Anna Frey on Court 4 and was tied 2-2 in the second set when play was halted. After dropping her opening set, Mary Boyce Deatherage led No. 31-ranked Tatum Evans 5-3 in the second set when the match was decided. North Carolina secured singles victories on Courts 1, 5 and 6 to clinch the match.
Florida State will now await its final seeding for the ACC Women’s Tennis Championships in Cary, North Carolina. The tournament is set to begin Tuesday and conclude with the championship match on Sunday.
