North DeSoto softball coach Tim Whitman became a record-setting coach on Sunday when his Lady Griffins won the LHSAA Non-Select Division II state championship by easing past Brusly 1-0 in Sulphur's Frasch Park.
The victory provided Whitman with his 10th state title, one of the highest marks in Louisiana by an active coach.
âI know this is clichĂ©, but I really donât think about it,â Whitman said. âI really get more enjoyment out of seeing the kidsâ faces and being a part of it with them. I guess one day I will look back at it, but for now, itâs about their reward for the hard work they put into it.â
The victory for North DeSoto (27-8) over Brusly (24-7) came behind a no-hitter from freshman pitcher Macie Cameron, who struck out 7 and walked 4.
âShe had the lowest strikeout total of the season, but we played error-free softball,â Whitman said.

Senior Carsyn Curtis led off the game with a double and scored on a double by Cameron for the gameâs only run.
âHonestly, I did not realize I was the only run until someone informed me after the game,â said Curtis, who is headed to Navarro College on a cheerleading scholarship. âI was more proud of my team for holding them defensively.â
Whitman won three state titles at Pineville (1996, 1997, 1998) and two at Ouachita Parish (2014, 2018). At North DeSoto he has championship rings from 2021, 2022, 2023, 2025 and 2026.

North DeSoto softball coach Tim Whitman won his 10th state title on Sunday in Sulphur.
âNobody believed in us and to know we proved so many people wrong is an amazing feeling,â Curtis said. âI trusted God and his timing. I asked that he take over my eyes and hands and give me peace in my at-bats, and he did just that. I give all glory to Him and thankful He allowed me to be that run for my team. My biggest fear was going into this game and letting my team down and not leading them as the only senior. So, knowing that, I left it all out there and led them to this position leaves me relieved.â
Leighton Ross, and Isabella Hemperly had singles for North DeSoto, which managed just five hits.
