The Red Devils’ interest in Elliot Anderson has been well-illustrated at this point. The 23-year-old represents the ultimate midfield target. However, Gibbs-White would be considered for a more attacking role, explains Crook.

The Stafford native is a youth product of Wolves, who made the move to Forest in the summer of 2022 for circa £25 million.

The 26-year-old has now established himself as one of the finest attacking midfielders in the Premier League, and was close to joining Spurs last summer.

Signing Gibbs-White is an enticing prospect for Man Utd

With his contract expiring in June 2028, Crook expects Gibbs-White to leave the City Ground in the summer, especially if Forest fail to qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League.

Transfermarkt estimates the England international’s market value at €60 million (£52m), but given that the club could request more than £100 million for Anderson, we can expect them to slap a considerably hefty price tag on Gibbs-White’s back.

At this stage, most Man Utd supporters will be keen to keep Fernandes, despite his short-term contract. Nevertheless, the Wolves academy product could represent a tempting opportunity for INEOS to invest in an English player with significant Premier League experience under his belt. Matheus Cunha once described Gibbs-White as a ‘great’ player.

It remains to be seen if signing the Forest star and simultaneously retaining Fernandes can be a conceivable prospect, allowing the Englishman to slowly adjust to his new surroundings at Carrington before eventually taking the torch from the Portuguese playmaker.
