Notre Dame Football Friday Free-For-All Mailbag
Another week of the 2026 offseason has come and gone. We're one day closer to the Blue Gold game and one day closer to the Irish kicking off their season against Wisconsin up at Lambeau Field. We had another great week of content here at Irish Breakdown. We started out the week with our weekly buy/sell/hold where our premium message board subscribers brought the heat, once again, which generated a lot of great conversation. But that wasn't all we discussed this week.
Later in the week, we talked about ESPN's latest Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings where Notre Dame came in No. 4 according to Mark Schlabach. We also talked through the 2023 and 2024 recruiting class and the role they'll play on this year's roster. We also ranked our Top 10 coaches in college football along with a handful of superlatives. We also talked about what we would like to see from the Irish in their final big practice tomorrow morning along with what we need to see from Notre Dame's 2026 opponents. Today, we capped it all off with a Friday free-for-all mailbag.

Here are some of the questions we answered on today's Friday free-for-all mailbag:
On Notre Dame's Passing Game Identity This Season...
"There's a plethora of talent at the wide receiver, tight end and running back rooms this year and all are more than capable of having very productive years. I think their' identity is going to be diversity. I think they'll be able to matchup with whoever they go against and it might not look the same every week. They could have weeks where they're going against a smaller defensive backfield and we could see them come out in 12 personnel and have Micah Gilbert and Quincy Porter start at wide receiver.
"Other weeks, I could see them starting Mylan Graham, Cam Williams and Jordan Faison or Jaden Greathouse against a secondary that lacks athleticism. It could be a bunch of different things but I see this pass game identity being very diverse this upcoming season. It's not like years past, and I think it's going to be extremely efficient and productive in 2026."

"For outlets like ESPN, I could see them changing their tune for the offseason, or a duration of the offseason. Let's be real about something, they're going to do whatever gets them clicks and whenever 'Notre Dame' is mentioned in an article or segment in a show, it's going to get clicks and views. Notre Dame fans will click on it to see if they're being loved on or hated on. Anti-Notre Dame fans will click on it for the same reasons. I would see if going several different ways and they'll also find a way to talk about Notre Dame's independence playing a factor as well. All options are on the table."
