Notre Dame football is on track to secure a top 2027 pass rusher, enhancing their elite defensive line class. Recent recruiting successes include several four-star prospects, fueling optimism for future commitments.
Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman warms up during a Notre Dame football practice at Irish Athletic Center on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, in South Bend.
It appears that Notre Dame is poised to win out for a dynamic 2027 pass rusher. The victory would be a continuation of another elite defensive line class.
Notre Dame football is in the middle of some tremendous recruiting momentum for the 2027 class. Head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish have been able to land the likes of four-star safety Zayden Gamble, explosive wide receiver Jackson Coleman, tight end Titus Hawk, and fast-rising safety John Gay III in recent weeks. The good news isn’t stopping anytime soon.
With the Irish staff landing four-star defensive end Aidan O’Neil this offseason, the defensive line class is off to a strong start. Oradell (NJ) Bergen Catholic defensive end Jackson Vaughn is another priority target to know, who actually reclassified from the 2028 recruiting class earlier this offseason, as well. With the intention of making a decision somewhat in the near future, there is a lot of optimism growing for Notre Dame’s chances.

That includes Chad Simmons, a national recruiting analyst for Rivals, who logged an expert prediction for the Irish to come out on top. Simmons mentioned Miami as another team to watch, but at this point, Notre Dame is the firm leader.
From pure upside as a pass rusher, there is a lot to love about Vaughn. He is an explosive athlete who could continue to add juice to that defensive end room. I share Simmons’ optimism in this recruitment. They are the team to beat.
Despite reclassifying recently into the 2027 recruiting class, Vaughn is considered to be a four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, he currently ranks as the No. 204 overall player, the No. 22 EDGE, and the No. 5 player from the state of New Jersey for the class. That rating promises to increase heading into a big 2026 season.
If the rankings don't get you excited, then Vaughn's offer list sure would, now holding 50 offers to his name. Some of his top offers include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan, Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, Texas, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Miami, Florida State, USC, Auburn, South Carolina, Missouri, Nebraska, Washington, Louisville, Maryland, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Colorado, Pitt, Virginia Tech, Virginia, West Virginia, SMU, NC State, Georgia Tech, UNC, UCF, Illinois, Boston College, Syracuse, Duke, Cal, Rutgers, and Purdue, among others.
As a sophomore in 2025, Vaughn put together a tremendous season. The 6-4, 225-pound pass rusher managed to collect 40 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and eight sacks. Vaughn also broke up three passes for one of the better defenses in all of high school football.
