Notre Dame's top quarterback target for 2027, Wonderful 'Champ' Monds, will announce his commitment on May 1st. The Fighting Irish are considered strong contenders for his recruitment.
Notre Dame may be on the brink of another four-star quarterback commit.
The Fighting Irish seem to be in a strong position for quarterback Wonderful "Champ" Monds, who is set to announce his college decision on Friday, May 1st according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.
Monds, who according to 247Sports Composite is ranked No. 264 in the country overall and the No. 20 quarterback in the 2027 class. He is listed at 6-foot-2 and 224-pounds
Monds represents somewhat of a pivot for Notre Dame. They offered him after Teddy Jarrard reclassified to 2026, and then the Irish got aggressive and got him onto campus on April 18 for an unofficial visit. Notre Dame may have been viewed as a darkhorse earlier but recently experts at On3 seem to think Notre Dame has gained significant momentum and may become the favorites for the quarterback.
On the field, Monds has already shown the production that matches the hype. As a freshman, he reportedly threw for 2,234 yards and 23 touchdowns against five interceptions while also running for 502 yards and nine scores.
Ohio State has long been considered a major threat in the recruitment. Monds has visited Columbus multiple times, and the Buckeyes remain a serious contender because of their track record developing quarterbacks and their national recruiting reach. Florida State has also stayed involved, giving Monds a trio of major programs to weigh before making his call.

For Notre Dame, landing Monds would be a significant win at a position of need and another signal that the Irish can compete nationally for elite quarterbacks. For now, head coach Marcus Freeman and Irish nation should have their answer on May 1.
