NY Giants draft: 2 Missouri defenders in New Jersey as ‘30’ visits conclude

A pair of Missouri defenders were in East Rutherford, N.J. on Wednesday as the New York Giants concluded their ‘30’ visits for the 2026 NFL Draft cycle. Wednesday was the final day for NFL teams to host players at their facilities.

Missouri linebacker Josiah Trotter and defensive tackle Chris McClellan, who should both be selected somewhere in the middle portion of the draft, visited the Giants.

The Giants, of course, have a need at defensive tackle whether or not Dexter Lawrence is with the team during the upcoming season. McClelan is the 116th-ranked player on the NFL Mock Draft Database Big Board. That would put him in Round 4.

In his draft guide, Dane Brugler of The Athletic says:

McClellan looks like an NFL player, with his big frame and bear-claw hands. He can be a tough guy for centers to defend when he times up the snap and uses his full extension or arm-over moves to create interior pressure. However, he can get stuck on blocks and needs to be more efficient with his hands to deconstruct and shed. Against the run, he can hold the point and respond well to double teams. Overall, McClellan isn’t a consistent disruptor, but he checks boxes with his physical characteristics and developing recognition skills. He projects as a rotational lineman on the interior who can give teams quality snaps as a zero-/one-technique.

Trotter is the 64th-ranked player on the NFL Mock Draft Database Big Board. That slots him late in Round 2 or early in Round 3.

Brugler says:

Like his All-Pro linebacker father, Trotter is a hammer looking for a nail. He is quick to key and diagnose versus the run and is a physical filler who can punch his way off blocks and square up as a tackler. However, it is the opposite against the pass, as he displays inconsistent route recognition, which often leaves him out of place and playing catch up. His field-general competitiveness and energy will ingratiate him with pro coaches. Overall, Trotter doesn’t have playmaking awareness in coverage (at least, not yet), but his run instincts and take-on skills are among the best in this draft class. He looks like a starting NFL Mike.
