The moment is finally settling in for Arvell Reese.
Just over a day after hearing his name called as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, the former Ohio State linebacker says the experience has been nothing but excitement.
âItâs been nothing but excitement, man,â Reese said. âI spent some time with my family after. Nothing but excitement, Iâm going to be honest.â
Reese returned to the Giantsâ facility on Friday after previously going through a pre-draft â30â visit, and said the atmosphere now feels completely different from that first introduction.
âItâs unreal being in the building,â he said. âIt felt like time flew by. I was just on the 30 visit not too long ago. I feel unreal being here. Iâm excited for it.â
The Giants made Reese the centerpiece of their defensive future after a breakout season at Ohio State, where he emerged as one of the most versatile defenders in college football. But before the draft, it was the personal connections with New Yorkâs coaching staff that stood out most to him.
Reese said conversations with defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson and linebackers coach Frank Bush helped solidify his comfort with the organization.
âI went to dinner with Coach Dennard Wilson and Coach Bush. We had a great conversation, a great long conversation,â Reese said. âI just felt like I could relate to those guys so much. They kept it real with me. They gave me some tips and pointers on how to move throughout my rookie year. And with Coach Harbaugh, we had a great conversation as well.â
As he begins his NFL career in New York, Reese admits heâs still learning the cityâonly having briefly visited Manhattan during his draft process.
âIt was busy down there, yeah,â he said with a smile.
Now, he joins a Giants defense that already features major talent, including Tremaine Edmunds, and one he says heâs eager to learn from immediately.
One phrase that has followed Reese throughout the draft process is âfast and violent,â a description often tied to his style of play and the Ravensâ defensive identity under head coach John Harbaugh.

Reese embraced that idea.
âThe image that I remember growing up, I always felt like the Ravens played fast and violent,â he said. âThatâs kind of what I try to model my game afterâbeing fast and violent, always thinking violence for sure.â
Still, Reese is quick to balance expectations, especially after being selected at the top of the draft.
âPlaying defense, youâve got to be violent.â

âI think that says a lot about me,â he said. âI wonât say it proves my point because I havenât done anything at this level yet, but I think Iâve got some shoes to fill. I think Iâm ready for the challenge.â
When asked whatâs more important on the fieldâfast or violentâReese didnât hesitate.
âBoth are very important,â he said. âBut playing defense, youâve got to be violent. Youâve got to be thinking of doing something violent.â
Despite comparisons to NFL stars like Micah Parsons and evaluations placing him among the most explosive defensive prospects in the class, Reese says his focus remains simple.
âI try to focus on the stuff I can control,â he said. âHeâs a great player, but I just worry about me.â
As he transitions from Ohio State standout to NFL rookie, Reese says the biggest shift is understanding heâs no longer auditioning.
âThe 30 visit, Iâm trying to be myself and just hope they can see something in me,â he said. âNow that Iâm here, itâs like I got hired. But the jobâs not completedâIâve got so much to do. Iâm just ready to get to work.â
For the Giants, the next step is turning that potential into production. For Arvell Reese, the journey is just beginning.
