Frank Reich has joined the Jets as their new offensive coordinator, motivated by a strong connection with Aaron Glenn. He aims to revitalize the team's offense and believes Geno Smith is a perfect fit for the role.

When Frank Reich returned home following his lone season as Stanfordâs interim head coach, he told his wife that he didnât plan on jumping back to the NFL unless the right opportunity presented itself.
He received a couple calls from different teams around the league, none of which really moved the needle, but all of that changed once Aaron Glenn came knocking.
Reich ended up joining the Jets as their new offensive coordinator.
The long-time head coach's connection with Glenn played a significant role in the decision, but heâs also excited about the chance to help turn things back around.
âAt this point, I love that idea,â Reich said Wednesday.
âKnowing how good the offensive line looked, you have a running back and receiver in Garrett [Wilson] and Breece [Hall] that are really good players, a really strong tight end room -- there was a lot to like looking at this team.â
Reich didnât want to get into anything too specific about his plan for the Jetsâ offense, but they've already established a clear vision with the majority of the personnel set in stone.
âEverything will be done to accentuate what the players do best,â he explained. âObviously that starts up front, since itâs no secret or surprise to anyone to say that weâre going to want to run the football -- weâll continue to emphasize that.
âThey ran the ball well last year, so weâll build on that, but you also have to find ways to be dynamic in the passing game and be excellent in situational football -- the way to do that is to create problems that the defense canât solve.â
Tasked with leading that system will be 35-year-old quarterback Geno Smith.
Despite coming off a down year in which he threw a league-high 17 INT's, Reich feels that Smith is a perfect fit.
âIâve liked Geno from day one,â he said. âWhen he was coming out of West Virginia I had a high grade on him -- I hadn't met him before coming here, and Iâm kind of glad, because Iâm even more impressed now meeting him in person.
Frank Reich joined the Jets due to his strong connection with Aaron Glenn and the opportunity to revitalize the team's offense.
Frank Reich believes Geno Smith's skills and experience align well with the offensive strategy he plans to implement.
Before joining the Jets, Frank Reich served as Stanford's interim head coach for one season.

"I feel his resilience, his toughness,â Reich continued. âThe No. 1 attribute that you need in any QB, especially one coming to try to turn things around is toughness -- tough mentally, physically, and I feel that from Geno on every front.
âThe ups-and-downs heâs been through -- having great success and dealing with some tough seasons -- if you play in this league long enough everyone faces that, but if youâre the right kind of leader you come out of it better. Thatâs the version of Geno Smith weâre getting, and I think his best football is ahead of him.â
