Official: Barcelona confirm legal department reviewing Florentino Perez’s accusations
Earlier today, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez held a press conference, during which he made some bizarre statements.
From lashing out at the Spanish media to announcing a new election three years ahead of time, the 79-year-old made a lot of explosive statements.
As has been the case in most of his recent public interactions, Perez once again hit out at Barcelona in the name of the Negreira case.
Now, reacting to the unfounded allegations, Barcelona have issued an official statement, confirming that the club’s legal team is carefully reviewing Perez’s accusations to explore if there are any grounds for legal action against him.
“Regarding the press conference called by Real Madrid President Florentino Perez, we inform you that our legal department is carefully reviewing his statements and accusations,” the statement read.
“These are currently being analysed, and the next steps are being assessed. We will provide further information on our position and any decisions made when appropriate.”
During his press conference, the Real Madrid chief went on to claim that he and the club have had seven league titles robbed because of the Negreira case and that he would not sit quietly and allow some referees to get rich by benefitting Barça.
Not stopping there, Perez also confirmed that Real Madrid are preparing a dossier on what they deem favourable treatment towards the Blaugrana by referees, which they intend to submit to UEFA.
The relationship between Barcelona and Real Madrid is already at an all-time low and these latest comments, which come days after the Catalans won the 2-0 and lifted the La Liga title, are bound to add more tension.
Florentino Perez accused Barcelona of involvement in the Negreira case, claiming that titles have been unfairly taken from Real Madrid.
The Negreira case refers to allegations of corruption involving Barcelona and former referee José María Negreira, which has raised questions about the legitimacy of some of the club's titles.
