Penn State hockey gained a commitment from forward Marco Mignosa on Friday:
Mignosa was drafted in the seventh round of the 2025 NHL Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. He played for the Soo Greyhounds of the OHL for five seasons, rolling up 116 goals and 173 assists in 303 career games. His 89 points in the 2025-26 season ranked sixth among OHL skaters. We will see how his production translates to NCAA hockey, but he has top six potential. Listed at just 172 pounds, Mignosa may struggle out of the gate playing against older and bigger players in the NCAA, but he has the skills to adapt quickly.
Since the start of the 2024-25 season, no one in the OHL had more shorthanded goals than Mignosa (12). Penn State has taken a more aggressive approach to the penalty kill recently, finishing in the top 10 of the NCAA in shorthanded goals each of the last two seasons. With Nic Chin-DeGraves transferring out, Mignosa has a good chance to be on the penalty killing unit alongside Dane Dowiak.
Mignosa is expected to join Penn State for the 2026-27 season. As of today, Penn State has 25 players on the roster, one short of the 26-player maximum. Gavin McKenna leaving for the NHL would open one spot. The biggest remaining need for the team is an eighth defenseman. Ethan Weber and Caeden Herrington are in, but one more left-handed defenseman would likely round out the 2026-27 roster.
Marco Mignosa recorded 116 goals and 173 assists over 303 career games in the OHL.
In the 2025-26 season, Mignosa ranked sixth among OHL skaters with 89 points.
Mignosa is expected to join the penalty killing unit at Penn State, especially after Nic Chin-DeGraves' transfer.
