Carnell Tate chose Ohio State for its strong history of producing NFL wide receivers and his relationship with Coach Hartline. He believes playing at Ohio State will help him achieve his dream of being a first-round draft pick.
There's little debate on which college football program is known as Wide Receiver U, and there's really no other program close to THE Ohio State Buckeyes. It was that way before, but the last few years have been even more ridiculous with all of the first-round talent that has come to the banks of the Olentangy.
In fact, the Buckeyes have had a wide receiver picked in the NFL draft first round four straight years, five in total through that period, with Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave both going in the first round in 2022. That looks to continue as well, with Carnell Tate most likely going on the first day.
It's no secret that the best wide receivers have come to Ohio State lately, but why? Tate was asked why he chose to play for the Scarlet and Gray when he sat down with Rich Eisen, and it's really no secret because his answer lines up with what most people would think.
"I ultimately chose Ohio State -- I had a great relationship with Coach Hartline. He's done it at an elite level, so it was only right for me to get that experience from him," Tate told Eisen. "He played at a high level, so everyone's trying to do what he did, and he was just pouring all of his experience down to us. It was my dream school. I grew up a Buckeye -- I always watched them, and ultimately, if you want to go first round as a receiver, you go to Ohio State."
It's hard to argue with that, and it's also no surprise. Eisen went on to ask Tate what losing Hartline will mean for recruiting, and he said that he didn't think there would be a drop off because of the history, but you can listen to that too, below.
If Tate does indeed go in the first round (hint: he will), then it'll make five-straight drafts for Ohio State, and we all know what's coming in 2027 with Jeremiah Smith. That'll mean we'll be six years into a Buckeye walking across the NFL stage during Day 1.
We'll see what happens after that. And remember, we'll have wall-to-wall coverage of the NFL draft when it comes to a high-definition television or streaming device near you from April 23 through 25.
