It is hard to believe that the Los Angeles Dodgers are currently on their way to a potential three-peat, and they are doing it without breaking a sweat. With a 19-9 record through roughly the first month of the season, it is likely going to go that way.
One of the reasons why they have been so successful thus far, has been thanks to their most valuable player, Shohei Ohtani. Not only has No. 17 been electric from the plate, but he has also been nearly flawless on the mound.
ESPN has Ohtani potentially gaining some votes in one of the very few awards that he has yet to win in his short nine-year career. The National League Cy Young Award could feature Ohtani's name on the ballot.
In fact, it is not crazy to believe that he might actually win the whole thing.
In four starts, Ohtani has pitched 24 innings, and struck out 25 batters. He has only allowed the 92 hitters he has faced to grab 12 hits off of him. The most baffling stat he has is that his ERA is a near-nothin 0.38,
The National League have some fantastic pitchers, and there is even an argument to be made that San Diego Padres closer Mason Miller should get some love in the voting for his flawless season.
But, for Ohtani, if he can get 25 or more starts this season and with this pace, there is no reason not give him the Cy Young. Or at the very least, the runner-up.
Shohei Ohtani has a solid shot at winning the NL Cy Young Award due to his impressive performance on the mound and at the plate.
