The UFC heavyweight division has lacked consistent star power in recent years, with uncertainty surrounding its biggest names.
Efforts to book a title unification bout between Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones stalled the division, before Jones announced his retirement last year, leaving it in a difficult position.
However, with Alex Pereira moving up in weight and new talent arriving, there are signs the landscape could soon shift in a more positive direction.

During the UFC 327 broadcast, the promotion confirmed it has signed Gable Steveson, an Olympic gold medallist, to bolster its heavyweight ranks.
He is expected to make his debut during International Fight Week in July, marking a rapid rise to the organisation after only recently entering mixed martial arts.
The 25-year-old won Olympic gold in freestyle wrestling in 2021 and transitioned to MMA in September 2025, quickly attracting attention.
He has also been training under Jones, adding further intrigue to his development as he prepares to test himself at the highest level.
Despite Steveson’s wrestling background, his early MMA record points to finishing ability.
He has fought three times and secured all victories by KO or TKO in the first round.
Just last week, he hinted at a UFC move while speaking to The Schmo, and that transition has now been confirmed.
Steveson should prepare to face a significant step up in competition after fighting for LFA, Anthony Pettis FC and MFL.
Time will now tell if he will justify the huge prospect status he carries since moving to the cage.
