As Chelsea conceded goal after goal on Tuesday night, the Sky Sports cameras kept cutting to Behdad Eghbali who was in the stands at Brighton. The Chelsea co-owner looked furious, and one feared the worst about the texts he was sending.
It was assumed he was telling his cronies to get rid of Liam Rosenior, and it appears that was just what was happening. Kaveh Solhekol’s long piece about Rosenior’s sacking claims that “ultimately Eghbali was the driving force behind the final call.”
There was some thought of persevering, but ultimately “the shocking manner of the defeat” was what cost Rosenior. It genuinely was the worst 45 minutes of Chelsea football we can remember.
“The players weren’t playing for Rosenior, the fans continued to voice their displeasure towards the owners, and for the first time there were sustained chants calling for Rosenior to leave.”
It’s hard to come back from all that. Now the question is which way the club go next.
