One draft analyst cautions against Commanders taking a WR at No. 7

"It's a seven-player draft."

That's how Logan Paulsen and Jeremy Greene see it in a quick summary. That is, they agree that tier one of this draft consists of seven players. With the Washington Commanders owning the No. 7 position, that would mean they could, in theory, stay put and select the last of the seven when they are on the clock. Greene also warned, however, that it means the other six teams determine which player you are getting at No. 7.

Another alternative would be to entertain offers, seeing if the Commanders get a good enough offer to trade back in the first round, while picking up an additional draft pick or two in return for moving down. But of course, that does not mean Commanders' GM Adam Peters agrees that it's a seven-player draft. We have no idea what Peters is thinking, and rightly so, as he and his staff have provided absolutely nothing to any media draft analyst, indicating they are leaning one way or another toward any specific player or to trade down.

Greene, a guest with Logan Paulsen and Grant Paulsen on the most recent edition of the "Take Command" podcast, warned listeners, "I don't believe ANYTHING I hear this week. If you say it to me right now, and I can't tangibly touch it, I don't believe it."

What about increasing talk that the Commanders needing to rebuild, but not having a selection in the second or fourth rounds, are trying to trade down? "I do think that the trade down is really likely, and I think it is with the Jets."

Logan Paulsen asked what is helping Greene to that assessment of the situation. "Carnell Tate," Green succinctly replied. "They have brought in every receiver and it seems like from everything I get out of that building, they are locked in on Tate (Ohio State receiver) and they know they can't get him at No. 16."

Greene continued, "If you look at the teams between 16 and 7, the only one that really makes sense, lack of draft capital wise, is Washington. And I think New Orleans (No, 8) is in more on Tate, than people believe."

Greene himself does not feel there is much difference in some of the top receivers in this draft referencing Tate, Makai Lemon (USC) and Jordyn Tyson (Arizona State). "I like him (Tate) and Makai Lemon very closely. If Jordyn Tyson wasn't made of popsicle sticks, I would like him just as much as the other two. But his bones have this weird thing where they break every morning, he rehabs them, and then he breaks them again the next morning. And I don't love that for a first-round receiver."
