Oregon Ducks quarterback Dylan Raiola provided a health update after recovering from a broken leg sustained at the end of the 2025 season with Nebraska. He is fully cleared for football activities but is still adjusting to certain movements post-injury.
Coming into a new system after transferring can be a bit overwhelming, especially at the quarterback position when you're immediately thrust into a leadership position. For new Oregon Ducks quarterback Dylan Raiola, that process has been made even more complex as he's tried to navigate the change while recovering from a major injury.
At the end of the 2025 season, Raiola suffered a broken leg as the starting quarterback for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He later entered the transfer portal and ended up in Eugene, where he will serve as the backup quarterback to Dante Moore. His backup role isn't due to an inability to play, though. Earlier this spring, Raiola was fully cleared for all football activities.
"I'm very, very grateful for all the trainers and people and everyone that went into that recovery," Raiola said in his first Oregon media session on Tuesday. "I feel great."
While Raiola is able to suit up and go out there and get practice reps with his teammates, it would be a lie to say that he feels exactly as he did before the injury. After being off his leg for so long and working through the rehabilitation process, Raiola says there are certain things, as simple as walking, running, or dropping into the pocket, that take some getting used to again.
"Obviously, there's still things that I need to work through to kind of get back comfortable, like the balance of my feet," Raiola said. "I mean, it's just so weird, like you gotta learn how to walk again, let alone take a drop and throw a football. So there's so many baby steps that go into it, but I'm grateful to be 100% fully cleared and moving forward."
Raiola came to Eugene this offseason knowing that he would be sitting behind Moore for a season and using that time to develop and grow as a player. He can also use that time to get more comfortable on his leg once again and be ready to take the reins at Oregon a year from now.
