Oregon QB Dante Moore cites Braxton Miller as his biggest influence, stating he models his game after the former Ohio State quarterback. Moore wears the number five in homage to Miller.
"What quarterbacks do you model your game after?"
It's a simple question, and one that's often predictable for college-aged quarterbacks: Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson are frequently uttered as answers to that question. They're the best of the best that the current college football generation has watched dominate in the NFL for years on end, so it makes sense.
But when posed that question during an interview with Roots & Rides Media, Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore shared a perspective that's different than most.
"I got one when I was younger, Braxton Miller, quarterback at Ohio State," Moore revealed. "That's why I wear five to this day. That's just someone that I loved and wanted to, you know, create my game like."
Growing up as a kid from Detroit, MI, looking up to Miller likely went against the rooting interests of many in his community. But that didn't stop Moore from looking up to the electrifying Miller, who was named the 2012 and 2013 Big Ten Player of the Year. During those seasons, the Buckeyes quarterback threw for 4,133 yards and 39 touchdowns. But it was his legs that lit the conference on fire, as he totaled over 2,300 yards and 25 scores on the ground, creating highlight-reel worthy plays nearly every game.
A shoulder injury in 2014 caused Miller to switch positions to wide receiver in 2015 and beyond, as he spent two seasons in the NFL with the , but Moore's attention had already been caught.

Tabbing Miller as one that he modeled his game after is a peculiar pick for Moore, who used his legs sparingly last season with the Ducks. He carried the ball 73 times for a grand total of 156 yards and two touchdowns, instead doing damage to opposing defenses with his arm.
"Then when I got older, I started to see that I couldn't run that fast and make those moves so I started watching [Tom] Brady," Moore continued. "I got the chance to meet Brady a couple weeks ago, so it was a blessing for that to moment. ... Brady is the GOAT. He's the best to do it so being able to, you know, copy his game and learn from him."
The play-style of Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is a more apt comparison for the Oregon quarterback. Both are precision passers, accurately being able to layer the ball in the middle of the field and put it into playmakers' hands. At times last season, Moore demonstrated a near-masterful understanding of the opposing defenses — a Brady calling card.
Though Moore doesn't quite have the straight-line speed and athleticism to match Miller's output at Ohio State, Brady's skills — however crazy it sounds — is a more attainable feat, with both possessing similar physical characteristics.
There's certainly a lot worse quarterbacks for Moore to mirror his game after. And if Moore even sniffs the mountaintops that Brady reached, that would be considered a massive success for the Ducks passer in his future pro career.
