Oregon softball ace pitcher Lyndsey Grein didn't start in the Ducks' opening game of the NCAA Tournament May 15 but is in the dugout with a large bandage over her left eye.
The senior, who was slated to start against Idaho State Friday in the Eugene Regional game, has an infection in her eye according to a team spokesman, and is day-to-day for the rest of the weekend.
Taylour Spencer started in place of Grein against the Bengals.

A 2025 NFCA all-American, Grein (23-6) leads the Big Ten Conference in appearances (43), is second in WHIP (1.05) and wins and third in strikeouts (195), hits allowed per seven innings pitched (5.07) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.75). She is also fourth in innings pitched (162.1) and strikeouts per seven innings pitched (8.4), and fifth in earned-run average (2.73).
Lyndsey Grein is day-to-day due to an eye infection and did not start in the opening game.
