Jackson Shelstad has announced his transfer from the Oregon Ducks to the Louisville Cardinals after three seasons. He committed to Louisville on Instagram and arrived on campus shortly after, canceling a visit to Arizona.
There was plenty of attention for Jackson Shelstad after he decided to enter the transfer portal, but his new destination became apparent very quickly. After three seasons with the Oregon Ducks, Shelstad announced his commitment to the Louisville Cardinals on Sunday on his Instagram.
Shelstad arrived on campus at Louisville on Friday and canceled his visit to Arizona before he even landed in ACC territory. The Cardinals also added Kansas transfer Flory Bidunga, who is the No. 1 player in the portal.
A former third-team All-Big Ten selection, Shelstad was once a fan-favorite with the Ducks. Hailing from West Linn High School, where the Ducks also found Payton Pritchard years prior, Shelstad led the Oregon backcourt as a freshman and helped guide the Ducks to two appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
Last season, a hand injury limited Shelstad to just 12 games, averaging 15.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists. When healthy, Shelstad averaged 13.6 points per game throughout his Oregon career. He developed a reputation for his ability to make shots from all over the floor and come up clutch in the biggest moments.
The Ducks finished just 12-20 on the season, and it became clear the program was heading in a different direction, leading to Shelstad and eight other Ducks entering the transfer portal. At Louisville, Shelstad will be able to compete within a tough ACC and contend for a championship. The Cardinals went 24-11 overall and 11-7 in ACC play last season, earning a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament before falling in the second round.
Oregon will miss Shelstad's ball-handling and 3-point proficiency, but the Ducks are already rebuilding the roster after securing a commitment from San Francisco transfer Tyrone Riley IV. However, Shelstad will be afforded a starring role on a contending team at Louisville, which needs to replace stars Mikel Brown Jr. and Ryan Conwell.
