Cade Povich struck out ten batters in a strong performance for the Norfolk Tides, despite their 6-3 loss to the Durham Bulls. The Tides' runs came from a home run by Jhonkensy Noel.
The Tides fell to Durham 6-3 on Sunday, courtesy of one ugly inning from Andrew Kittredge (0.2 IP, 5 R, 6 H). Methinks the rehab stint should continue. On the other hand, Cade Povich pitched great, mowing down ten Bulls hitters by strikeout over five innings. The lefty starter issued just two walks and gave up three hits. The Tides scored all three runs courtesy of a Jhonkensy Noel home run in the sixth, with Jud Fabian and Creed Willems aboard via walk. Willems reached three times, via free pass and two singles. The Hudson Valley Renegades came from behind with three runs in the top of the ninth inning to force extras and ultimately defeated the Frederick Keys 7-6 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon at Nymeo Field. Twine Palmer (yes, real name, and also his middle name is “Rollin”) started for Frederick. He had a passable outing, allowing two runs in 3.1 innings. Ryan Cabarcas, Jacob Cravey and Eccel Correa combined for 4.2 scoreless in the middle innings. Alas, Joe Glassey allowed three runs in the ninth and Chandler Marsh two more in extras. The bats weren’t bad. Vance Honeycutt homered. Payton Eeles doubled and knocked in a run. And Jackson Holliday had two hits, one of them a double, in his extended rehab stint. Box Score
The Delmarva Shorebirds were down 4-0 after the first inning, and this one never got competitive. Kailen Hamson took the loss as the starter for Delmarva. Luis Beltrán allowed five runs in 2/3 of an inning. Keegan Gillies and Todd Kniebbe each had shutout appearances in relief. Among the hitters, DJ Layton homered on a nice, 2-for-4 day, and Joshua Liranzo hit an RBI double. Box Score **Tomorrow’s Schedule** • There are no scheduled games on Monday.
