The biggest question facing every WNBA team in training camp
WNBA training camps open with key questions for each team.
Texas defeated Oklahoma 8-6 in extra innings, thanks to Katie Stewart's walk-off home run in the eighth inning. This victory allowed Texas to salvage one game in the three-game SEC series.
AUSTIN, Texas â With one on and one out in the eighth, the game was tied.
Texasâ Katie Stewart lifted her plant foot, timed it perfectly and crushed a 2-0 pitch deep over the left-field wall. She knew it was gone immediately and slammed her bat into the dirt.
Ballgame.
Stewartâs second homer of the day lifted Texas to an 8-6 walk-off win over Oklahoma on Sunday at Red & Charline McCombs Field, salvaging one of three games over the weekend.
Before Stewartâs blast, earlier in the inning, freshman Hannah Wells tied the game with a solo shot. The Sooners still claimed the series, having clinched it Saturday night.
Heading into extra innings, the Sooners had the momentum. For a moment, it looked like they might steal the sweep.
Instead, Stewart made sure they didnât.
Texas outhit OU 12-9, with Stewart and Kayden Henry combining for six hits, six RBIs and three home runs. Teagan Kavan struck out six across seven innings and Citlaly Gutierrez picked up the win with one out in the eighth.
Here are two more takeaways from OUâs (40-4, 13-2 SEC) series-finale loss:
OU softball vs Texas highlights: Katie Stewart walk-off HR lifts Longhorns past Sooners
Texas' Katie Stewart (20) gets a base hit in the sixth inning of a Women's College World Series game last season. Stewart hit a walk-off home run to beat OU on April 12 in Austin, Texas.
Gabbie Garcia delivered in the moment OU needed her most.
The Sooners were down to their final two outs, staring at a loss and a rapidly approaching storm. Then Garcia flipped the script.
With one out in the seventh and Ella Parker on second following a lead-off double, Garcia sent a full-count pitch 239 feet to right field, tying the game at 5 and injected life back into the OU dugout.
Garcia was locked in at the plate all weekend, finishing the series with three hits, two home runs and three RBIs. She continues to deliver in big spots.
In the eighth, OU grabbed its first lead at 6-5 when Kai Minor singled through the right side to score Sydney Barker. After spending the entire afternoon chasing, the Sooners had finally broken through.
For a few minutes, control had flipped. Then it flipped right back.
Stewartâs blast in the bottom half erased the rally and momentum in one swing.
More: Kendall Wells 'like no other hitter' OU softball coach Patty Gasso has ever seen
Oklahoma's Abby Dayton swings at a pitch against Texas on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin, Texas.
The setup before first pitch suggested a staff day and Patty Gasso followed through.
After clinching the series Saturday, OU opted for a bullpen approach, leaning on depth rather than starting ace Adurey Lowry, who was sensational in Fridayâs win. Gasso used five pitchers Sunday â Sydney Berzon, Kierston Deal, Berkley Zache, Allyssa Parker and Lowry.
Berzon started and allowed three runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings. Deal followed with a clean inning.
The freshmen handled the middle: Zache gave up one run in 1 1/3 innings and Parker matched her line.
Lowry (18-2) took the loss, allowing three runs in the final 1 1/3 innings â including Stewartâs walk-off shot.
The Sooners left town with a series win but a bad taste in their mouths after watching Stewart trot around the bases and celebrate with her teammates at home.
Next, OU faces Oklahoma State at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Devon Park in Oklahoma City before hosting a three-game series against Arkansas next weekend at Loveâs Field in Norman.
