Chiefs' schedule release 'wish' is a little odd
Chiefs' Schedule Release: What to Expect in 2026?
The Green Bay Packers claimed tight end Luke Lachey off waivers from the Houston Texans on Tuesday, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Lachey (6-6, 251) was a seventh-round pick (No. 255 overall) of the Houston Texans in the 2025 NFL draft. He was waived at final roster cutdowns last August and spent his entire rookie season on the Texans practice squad.
Lachey caught 74 passes for 893 yards and four touchdowns over 42 games at Iowa. An ankle injury just three games into his 2023 cost him the rest of the season, but he returned in 2024 and caught 28 passes over 12 games. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.85 seconds, hit 35" in the vertical leap and covered 10-0 in the broad jump before the draft, earning him a Relative Athletic Score of 7.42 out of 10.0.
From Lance Zierlein's scouting report: "Combination tight end capable of lining up in-line or as a move tight end. While Lachey can do both, he lacks the core strength and consistency of a typical 'Y' tight end and has average quickness to escape man coverage on the next level. He has experience operating underneath and as an intermediate target, using proper leverage in his routes and good body control, along with strong hands, when contested. He has NFL size but needs to prove he can more consistently sustain as a run blocker in order to become a trustworthy, three-down player in the league. Unless that happens, he’s likely to be fighting for a role as a TE3 or TE4."
The Packers have been searching for depth at tight end since the end of the 2026 NFL draft. Lachey will join a tight end position group featuring Tucker Kraft, Luke Musgrave, Josh Whyle, Drake Dabney, Messiah Swinson and undrafted rookie RJ Maryland.
Lachey was on Brennen Rupp's "Unpacking Future Packers" draft preview list ahead of the 2025 NFL draft. Read his profile here.
The Packers also claimed cornerback MJ Devonshire off waivers from the Bills on Tuesday.
