Packers fans largely agree that trading back into the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft would have been unwise. The team, lacking a first-round pick for the first time in 40 years, opted not to pursue trades despite the potential for quality players available.

There may be Green Bay Packers fans who think that the team should have found a way to trade back up into the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft on Thursday, but those fans are going to be very hard to find.
The Packers went into the NFL Draft without a first-round draft pick for the first time in forty years on Thursday night, having sent their 2026 and 2027 round-one picks to Dallas Cowboys last summer for Micah Parsons. Dallas traded the Packers’ pick at #20 overall to the Philadelphia Eagles, moving back three spots to 23 to select pass-rusher Malachi Lawrence.
For their part, the Packers never really seemed in the market to trade up into round one, and it’s not hard to see why. Based on the Rich Hill trade value chart, Green Bay likely would have needed to send all of their top three picks (52, 84, and 120) in order to get back into the top 32 picks. Given that this year’s draft class has a lot of quality players with day two grades but fewer highly-rated prospects, not sending the bulk of a draft class for a single player — or perhaps some significant picks in 2027 — is probably wise.
Indeed, Packers fans overwhelmingly believe that to be the case. A whopping 98 percent of Acme Packing Company readers agree that the Packers should not have worked harder to get back into Thursday’s first round:

The Packers may end up making a move up on Friday, however, when the cost will be less prohibitive. Could they get into the early part of round two? That might be a bit of a stretch, but there are some better options there. Meanwhile, check out Fanduel sportsbook to see who might be the top candidates to be the first handful of picks on Friday.
