The Green Bay Packers hosted LSU safety AJ Haulcy for a top-30 pre-draft visit ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. This visit is unexpected as the Packers already have established starting safeties.

In one of the more surprising pre-draft visits, the Green Bay Packers brought in a safety for a top-30 visit.
LSU Tigers safety AJ Haulcy posted to Instagram that he was in Green Bay, presumably for an official visit less than two weeks before the start of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Itâs a surprise visit for the Packers, who already have their starting safeties likely locked down with Xavier McKinney, Evan Williams, and Javon Bullard in the slot. Haulcy is currently 57th on the consensus big board, suggesting the Packers could be interested in using one of their two Day 2 selections on the LSU safety.
Haulcy started his career at New Mexico before transferring to Houston, where he played for two seasons before transferring to LSU for his final college season. He was a first-team All-Big 12 selection in 2024 and first-team All-SEC in 2025, racking up a combined 162 tackles, 12 pass breakups, and eight interceptions over that two-year span.
After watching the film, Haulcy looks like an ideal box safety prospect. While playing on the heavier end at over 220 pounds in 2025, he looked like an enforcer on tape. His instincts and explosiveness allow him to easily trigger downhill, either to effectively fill the run, attack the catch point, or jump passes for interceptions and PBUs.
Along with being a disciplined tackler with plenty of pop in his pads, Haulcy shows legit discipline, drawing zero penalties throughout the 2025 season. Most of Haulcyâs concerns as a prospect are related to his top-end play speed, where heâs average at best, likely limiting his usage as a traditional deep safety.
However, in a league where offenses are using more heavy personnel and condensed formations while defenses are adding hybrid, versatile box defenders, Haulcy could bring an instant impact to an NFL defense as a top-50/Day 2 prospect.
The bigger question is whether or not thatâs enough of an added value for the Packers to take him on Day 2, considering their current depth at safety.
The Packers may be considering AJ Haulcy as a potential selection with one of their Day 2 picks, despite already having established starting safeties.
AJ Haulcy is currently ranked 57th on the consensus big board for the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Packers' current starting safeties are likely Xavier McKinney, Evan Williams, and Javon Bullard.
