Packers hosted Virginia Tech QB Kyron Drones on official pre-draft visit

The top secret quarterback visitor for the Green Bay Packers has been revealed. Per Bill Huber of Packers on SI, Green Bay hosted Virginia Tech's Kyron Drones on an official pre-draft visit.

Drones joins Texas Tech's Behren Morton as the team's two pre-draft visitors at quarterback. Both are late round or undrafted free agent types.

Drones, a Texas native and Baylor transfer, is ranked as the No. 424 overall player on the consensus big board. Dane Brugler of The Athletic ranked Drones as the No. 27 overall quarterback in the 2026 draft class and a likely undrafted free agent.

Drones started 32 games over three seasons as the starter at Virginia Tech. He completed 58.3 percent of his passes, threw 45 touchdown passes and 19 interceptions and rushed for 1,847 yards and 22 touchdowns. Drones was a team captain for Virginia Tech in both 2024 and 2025.

Drones is listed at 6-1 and 226 pounds, giving him Malik Willis-like size. He also ran the 40-yard dash in 4.62 seconds, hit 33" in the vertical leap, covered 10-0 in the broad jump and completed the short shuttle in 4.27 seconds. His Relative Athletic Score is 9.58 out of 10.0, meaning he has elite athleticism for a quarterback his size. Drones top comparable in terms of RAS? Jalen Hurts.

In 2024, Drones became the first player in school history to throw a touchdown pass, rush for a touchdown and catch a touchdown pass in the same game (vs. Georgia Tech). In 2023, Drones set a Virginia Tech bowl record with 176 rushing yards (vs. Tulane).

The Packers lost Willis in March and will likely add a developmental quarterback via the draft or undrafted free agency. Drones brings a dual-threat style that could be worth developing after the Packers struck gold with Willis, a former third-round pick.
