Chase Claypool hasn’t been on an NFL team since 2024.
The former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills ahead of the 2024-25 season, but never played a game for the AFC East franchise due to an untimely toe injury. Claypool appeared in nine games with the Miami Dolphins in 2023-24 before joining the Bills, recording four receptions for 26 yards in nine contests.
After failing to find a gig this past season, Claypool made it clear he wasn’t giving up on an eventual return, citing that he’s eager to make another appearance in the big leagues.
The 27-year-old recently tried out for the Green Bay Packers, and it didn’t take long for the four-time Super Bowl champions to decide whether to sign him to a deal.
“No immediate deal forPackers and veteran wide receiver Chase Claypool after tryout, per league source, and no plan to revisit at this time,” reported Monday.

Claypool clearly didn’t do enough to convince the Packers to take a short- or long-term chance on him. The former second-round pick likely made his fair share of plays during the tryout, but was far from a standout performer.
Claypool’s NFL journey isn’t over yet, though, as there’s a chance he could find work elsewhere ahead of the next NFL campaign.
