On Thursday morning, a little less than 12 hours before the full 2026 NFL schedule was released, a leak has been reported that the Packers will have a second game broadcast on the streaming platform around a major holiday. The league previously announced that the Packers will visit the Los Angeles Rams on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving; this new report has Green Bay playing the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Christmas Day, with both games shown on Netflix. As our Zach Rapport noted in today’s Cheese Curds, the Packers are an appealing test case for the league’s continued expansion into streaming services thanks to their large and passionate fan base. These two games are set to be the first two that the Packers will play on Netflix, however, following games on Peacock each of the last two seasons — last year’s week 17 game against the and the 2024 season opener against the Eagles in Brazil. These games are of course all separate from the various Thursday Night Football games the Packers have participated in over the last few years that are broadcast on Amazon Prime. Notably, this Packers-Bears Christmas Day game gets the traditional early time slot of 12:00 Noon Central Time, offering plenty of time for an uninterrupted Christmas dinner afterwards. Christmas Eve games are common around the NFL when the holiday falls on a weekend; generally, when Christmas Day falls on a Sunday, the league shifts most of its games to Christmas Eve on Saturday instead. However, this year Christmas Day is a Friday, making the Packers’ placement on the holiday particularly notable and unusual. Green Bay has of course been no stranger to playing on Thanksgiving in recent years, having played on the holiday each of the last three seasons ahead of this year’s Wednesday game. However, they are settling in as one of the NFL’s primary draws around Christmas as well, having played on Christmas Eve in 2023 and Christmas Day in 2022 and 2021 (though the 2023 and 2022 games notably both fell on Sundays). However, this is the first time in a decade that they will face a divisional opponent on Christmas Day or Christmas Eve, with the last time being a 2016 date against If this report is indeed accurate, the Packers could end up playing a game on every day of the week except for Tuesday with the reveal of this game. They already have games on a Wednesday and a Friday, Sunday is an obvious lock, and they are a sure bet to appear on Thursday Night Football and Monday Night Football sometime during the season.
