Paige Bueckers made it clear she is done entertaining questions about her personal life, and she did it in a way that immediately reset the conversation.
With growing attention around her relationship with Azzi Fudd following the WNBA Draft, Bueckers stepped in early to draw a firm line. The Dallas Wings star understood exactly how quickly narratives can spiral, especially when personal matters begin to overshadow professional achievements.
That is why she chose to address the situation head-on before it could become a lingering storyline. For Bueckers, this was not just about privacy, but about ensuring that both she and Fudd are judged strictly on what they bring to the court.

According to a Yahoo Sports post on X, Bueckers addressed the situation directly before it could become a season-long distraction.
“First of all, missed you guys, genuinely hope you had a great offseason. There is something I wanted to address and I only plan on addressing it once,” Bueckers said.
She added, “Quite frankly, I believe me and Azzi’s personal relationship is nobody’s business but our own, and what we choose to share is completely up to us.”
The timing of the statement was not random. Ever since the Dallas Wings selected Fudd with the No. 1 overall pick, speculation has followed the duo, with some even questioning whether the decision was influenced by their relationship.

Bueckers clearly wanted to shut that narrative down before it gained any more traction, especially after a media day moment where a question about their relationship was quickly cut off by team staff, only adding fuel to the discussion.
Beyond setting boundaries, Bueckers made sure to redirect attention back to what actually matters on the court.
“Me and Azzi have always been the most professional; we’ve always conducted ourselves as such, and we’ve never let anything that happens off the court carry onto the court. And that’s what we’ll continue to do,” she continued.
“Azzi Fudd was the number one draft pick because she earned it, and it had nothing to do with me and everything to do with who she is. She’s her own great, individual person, and she should be celebrated as such,” Bueckers concluded.
That distinction is key. Fudd arrives in Dallas as one of the most accomplished players in her class, and the organization’s decision to draft her was rooted in talent, not narrative.
The two already have a history of success together dating back to their time at UConn, where they built chemistry and won at the highest level. Now, they are expected to form one of the most dynamic duos in the WNBA.
But as Bueckers made clear, none of that changes how they approach their careers. The expectation is the same. Perform, compete, and keep everything else separate.
