
Palm Beach County athletes excelled at the FHSAA Class 4A track and field state championships, securing five event titles. Notable performances included Preston Sangely winning in the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs, and the Spanish River boys team finishing as state runner-up.
Palm Beach County high school athletes returned from the FHSAA Class 4A track and field state championships over the weekend with five total event state champions.
Spanish River's Preston Sangely grabbed a pair of wins in the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs while Park Vista's Jeremiah Lysius and Chase Bureau won titles in high jump and javelin, respectively. Spanish River's girls 4x800-meter relay team also won a state title.
In team competition, Spanish River's boys team enjoyed a banner day, taking Class 4A state runner-up with just five student-athletes in competition. The Sharks' girls team also fared well, finishing fourth overall.
Sangely closed his decorated varsity career with more state hardware, even if he did come up just shy of a coveted quadruple state championship.
The Sharks' senior star went 1-2 with his brother Casey in the 800-meter race and ran one of his best times of the year to capture the 1600-meter title. Sangely finished second in the 4x800-meter relay and third in the 3200-meter, coming within a second of first place in both events.
Preston Sangely, Jeremiah Lysius, and Chase Bureau were standout athletes, with Sangely winning in the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs.
The Spanish River boys team finished as state runner-up, while the girls team placed fourth overall.

Park Vista's Chase Bureau won the boys javelin event during the FHSAA Class 4A high school track and field championships in Jacksonville on May 9.
Park Vista's track and field team also enjoyed a strong performance at the Class 4A meet, particularly by its specialists in the field events.
Lysius completed a perfect season by winning a state title in the high jump. He won all 15 of the high jump events he entered this season. Bureau won a state title in the javelin, capping a season in which he won 11 of his 12 javelin events.
