CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Lining up and hearing the go-call, Carolina Panthers rookie nose guard Lee Hunter shouted, howled and grunted his way through NFL rookie minicamp drills.
Throughout the practice fields behind Bank of America Stadium last week, Hunter could be heard while engaging in defensive line drills during the two-day event, which wrapped Saturday.
Drafted in the second round after Panthers general manager Dan Morgan traded up to snare the former Texas Tech standout, Hunter received a callout from rookie wide receiver Chris Brazzell II after Saturday's practice.
When asked which new teammate impressed him the most, third-round draft pick Brazzell said: "Hunter. Hunter's big. Hunter's a big 'ol dude.
"I see why ya'll got him in the second."

Leading up to drafting Hunter No. 49 overall April 24, the Panthers' scouts watched the 6-foot-4, 330-pounder dominate his opponents during Senior Bowl practices last January, except, it appears, when he battled ex-Kansas State center Sam Hecht, whom the Panthers drafted in the fifth round.
Hunter ranked in the 93rd percentile in run stop rate last season. Among defensive tackles since 2023, Hunter placed first in tackles (146), run stops (81) and tackles for loss/no gain (38), playing at least 500 snaps per season during that span.
Morgan anticipates Hunter, a third-team All-American last season, eventually sustaining the front of the Panthers' 3-4 base defense, lining up to defensive end Derrick Brown. Hunter played at least 500 snaps the past three seasons, including the previous two at Central Florida.
During his initiation to NFL practices last Friday and Saturday, Hunter displayed a level of on-field energy and off-field joviality.
"I just like to have fun," Hunter said after Friday's practice. "I like to juice myself up, juice guys up around me and if you got juice, I feel like energy just rubs off. If everybody around you got juice, that's a scary defense."
