Wrexham ease past Stoke to reignite play-off hopes
Wrexham's 2-0 win over Stoke reignites their play-off ambitions!
Patrick Kane has expressed interest in continuing with the Detroit Red Wings after their disappointing season. While nothing is finalized, both Kane and the organization are open to discussions about his future.
The offseason has arrived once again for the Detroit Red Wings, and with it comes familiar questions about the future â including that of veteran star Patrick Kane.
After Detroitâs 2025-26 season ended in disappointment, missing the playoffs for the 10th straight year, Kane addressed where things stand between himself and the organization.
The short answer? Nothing is finalized, but thereâs interest on both sides.
Patrick Kane Red Wings future
Kane made it clear he hasnât made a final decision about next season, but he didnât exactly sound like someone ready to walk away either.
âYou want to be on a winning team,â Kane said via the Detroit Free Press. âI still think we have a good team in here, that we can win in here. I think this teamâs better than some teams that are in the playoffs.â
That belief stands out, especially considering Detroit once again fell just short.
The Red Wingsâ season followed a now-familiar script: strong stretches, late-season struggles, and ultimately, no playoff hockey.
Despite playing in a brutally competitive Atlantic Division, the only division with five playoff teams, the reality is simple.
Detroit didnât get it done.
Players inside the locker room arenât shying away from that truth.
Patrick Kane indicated that there is mutual interest between him and the Detroit Red Wings regarding his future, although no decisions have been finalized.
The Detroit Red Wings have missed the playoffs for the 10th consecutive year following the 2025-26 season.
Kane's comments suggest potential changes for the Red Wings as they look to improve after a decade of playoff absences, indicating a willingness to explore options for the upcoming season.

âItâs the worst feeling you have not going to the playoffs and you know youâre so close, everybody works so hard and we still donât get it done,â said Simon Edvinsson. âWe really need to figure that out. I know that everyone is so tired of being here.
âYou have to believe in what you do for the whole time. I felt like we â not stopped believing, but it almost felt that way a little bit, that we didnât have that edge to push us over. Something to make us win that extra game.â
Kaneâs comments suggest he sees potential in Detroit, but potential hasnât translated into results.
Thatâs the tension heading into the offseason.
Does Kane believe the Red Wings are close enough to break through?
Or does he look elsewhere for a clearer path to playoff hockey?
For now, both sides appear open to continuing the relationship.
But after another near-miss, words wonât be enough.
If Kane is going to stay in Detroit, it will likely come down to one thing:
Proof that this team can finally take the next step.
