The New England Patriots have the 31st overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, and while it's not the highest pick, it could still be very coveted.
The Patriots have clear needs in the pass rush department, and they could also use an offensive tackle who can fill in for injuries and eventually take over for Morgan Moses. However, with the 31st pick, many of the players they like may be gone. Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf has noted that he is open to trading the pick.
The Patriots are not going to select a player in the first round just for the sake of picking someone. Wolf is unlikely to reach for a player, despite the allure of having a fifth-year option. They could easily move back a few spots, adding draft capital and still getting a player they like.
98.5 The Sports Hub's Alex Barth predicted the Patriots would make this draft day trade with the Arizona Cardinals, getting them to overpay to come up and draft a quarterback:
The Patriots are looking to address their needs in pass rush and offensive tackle, and trading the pick could help them acquire valuable assets.
QB-needy teams are likely candidates to pursue a trade for the Patriots' first-round pick, as they may overpay to secure a quarterback.
The Patriots have clear needs in pass rush and offensive tackle, especially to fill in for injuries and future replacements.

The Patriots would be getting three picks, two inside this year's top 115 picks, and a fourth-rounder next season. If the Patriots trade for A.J. Brown after June 1, like many experts are expecting, they will need all the picks they can get next year. In return, the Cardinals get their new quarterback in Ty Simpson.
"With the top tackles off the board, the Patriots get a chance to move back and add draft assets this year and next year. While the (Pittsburgh) Steelers may not need to reach on Simpson with Aaron Rodgers possibly coming back, the Cardinals are more desperate. This is an overpay by the Cardinals, but there are 'taxes' that come with getting a first-round pick and fifth-year option without sending one back in return, as well as trading up for a quarterback."
The Cardinals have the No. 3 overall pick as well. They could land a starter on their offensive line and secure Simpson on the same day with this trade. With Jacoby Brissett in a contract dispute, the Cardinals may feel even more pressure to ensure they get Simpson, and not another quarterback-needy team.
