The New England Patriots signed Romeo Doubs this offseason to replace Stefon Diggs as their top pass catcher, but they are also expected to acquire A.J. Brown soon.
Doubs is coming from a Green Bay Packers offense that does not have a true No. 1 receiver by philosophy. However, on the Patriots, he was going to have an opportunity to be a true No. 1 option. The Patriots gave him a four-year, $68 million deal, worth up to $80 million with performance-based bonuses.
However, it was recently reported that the Patriots are likely to acquire Brown from the Eagles after June 1. The Patriots not drafting a receiver and the Eagles trading up for a receiver in the first round seem indicative of a trade coming soon. With the likelihood of Brown joining the Patriots seemingly at an all-time high, Doubs was asked about playing alongside him.
Romeo Doubs signed a four-year contract worth $68 million, which could increase to $80 million with performance-based bonuses.
Doubs is expected to take on the role of a true No. 1 receiver with the Patriots, unlike his previous role with the Packers where there wasn't a clear top receiver.
If A.J. Brown joins the Patriots, Doubs may need to share the spotlight, impacting his target opportunities in the offense.

"I have a ton of respect for him. He's been a dude in this league for quite a long time...if he's here I'd love to have him around, and if not I still wish him the best because he's one of the best in this league," Doubs said in a press conference, per 98.5 The Sports Hub's Alex Barth.
Not that anyone expected there to be, but there seems to be no jealousy on Doubs' side of things. Even if the Patriots add Brown, Doubs will seemingly still have a huge role in the offense. He is a reliable target in the middle of the field and will be a great option for Drake Maye. He may actually benefit from playing with a proven No. 1 receiver like Brown.
Teams will be more focused on Brown, potentially creating more opportunities for Doubs. Doubs signed with the Patriots with the hopes of helping them win a Super Bowl. He is not the kind of player to complain about his role. He knows he can contribute in any way the team needs him to, and seems to have no problem sharing the spotlight with Brown if a trade happens.
