Romeo Doubs, now with the New England Patriots, has no resentment towards the Green Bay Packers, the team that drafted him. He emphasizes that his decision to join the Patriots was for personal reasons, not revenge.
New England Patriots wide receiver Romeo Doubs has no ill will against his former team, the Green Bay Packers.
Signing with the Patriots was ultimately about him making the best decision for himself and his family. It was nothing personal against the team that drafted him with the No. 132 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He carved out a solid run in Green Bay with 202 catches for 2,424 yards and 21 touchdowns across 59 games.
The Patriots are slated to face the Packers in the 2026 season, but that isn't a game that Doubs has circled on his calendar for any particular reason.
"Green Bay took care of me. You know, it wouldn't be a reason for me to have that type of pressure against them, because again, my career started there," Doubs said, as transcribed by Sports Illustratedās Ethan Hurwitz. "They taught me the foundation of football, how football works, situational football.
"Just understanding complimentary football, how teams can be, just the overall game in general. They showed me the ropes in that area. And again, I didn't know that we played them this year, but ... it's not even like that."
Doubs was a key weapon for the Packers for four seasons. He will look to bring that same type of dependability and consistency to a Patriots offense that found success under Josh McDaniels last year.
The veteran wide receiver should be able to shine with third-year quarterback Drake Maye throwing him the ball.
