Joel Embiid was ruled out for Game 2 against the Knicks due to a right ankle issue, leaving the Sixers in an 0-2 series hole. Paul George expressed hope that Embiid is working hard to be ready for Game 3.
NEW YORK -- The Philadelphia 76ers had to take on the New York Knicks in Game 2 of their Round 2 series on Wednesday night without the services of Joel Embiid. The big fella was initially listed as probable due to a right ankle issue, but the Sixers then ruled out the 2023 MVP winner after shootaround.
The Sixers struggled down the stretch without having Embiid to dump the ball into in order to find any type of offense as they fell 108-102. Philadelphia is now in an 0-2 hole as the series now shifts to the City of Brotherly Love, but one has to wonder if Embiid will be ready to play.
Coach Nick Nurse stated that Embiid was disappointed that he was unable to give it a go when considering how hard he's worked in order to get back on the floor following an appendectomy. Teammate Paul George discussed Embiid after the Game 2 loss to the Knicks.
"Jo wanted to be out there with us," George said. "He wanted to play. I think he's kind of preparing himself now to do whatever he can to try to be available for us in Game 3. So, I think it's kind of around the clock, putting in as much work or doing whatever he needs to do or can do to try to be available, but understanding if he's not, we totally understand. We know that he's giving the effort to try to get ready for us."
One cannot question the toughness Embiid continues to show and how badly he wants to play basketball at this stage. He worked his way back quickly from an appendectomy and various injuries in order to be there for this group and lead them. Obviously, this is a talented team that has enough to win without him, but it makes life easier when he is on the floor and able to give the Sixers anything.
