Savvy Paulson and Beninger have been voted Kitsap Sun athletes of the week for May 4-9. Paulson had an impressive week in softball, while Beninger excelled in baseball.
Central Kitsap softball player Savvy Paulson and Olympic baseball player are the Kitsap Sun athletes of the week for May 4-9, selected by readers in an online poll.
Athletes are nominated by their respective coaches, and the top vote-getters for both boys and girls are declared the winners.
Paulson hit .600 for the week with three doubles, two triples, a home run and eight RBIs. She also pitched a no-hitter against Silas with nine strikeouts. She collected 1,577 votes. Other nominees in girls sports were Klahowya's Macayla Wrataric, Bainbridge's Else Drugge, Abby Schnee and Cate Torrell, Olympic's Emerson Duncan, Chelsea Barber and Audrey Murphy, Kingston's Taizah Franklin, Bremerton's McKaela Robison and Kali Christian, and North Mason's Samantha Neil.
Beninger earned a complete-game 1-0 win over North Mason, collecting 14 strikeouts. He collected 214 votes. Other nominees in boys sports were Klahowya's Dalton Watson and Brandon Smith, and Bainbridge's Ignacio Llorens.
The next athlete of the week poll will appear online May 20.
