Celtics set NBA record for three-point field goals
It was no secret coming into the playoffs that the Boston Celtics rely on the three-point shot offensively.
Last year's Celtics team made more three-point field goals than any other in NBA history with 1,457.
When the threes are falling, the Celtics' offense is impossible to keep up with. But when they aren't, Celtics fans know how ugly it can get.
This was the case in the first round of the playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers. In the four losses, the Celtics were a combined 49-179 from beyond the arc. They missed 130 threes in four games.
When the Celtics trailed by just one point in Game 7 with three minutes to go, fans grew increasingly frustrated with their seeming inability to take a two-point field goal. They went 1-12 in that span, with nine of the twelve shots coming from three-point land.
Payton Pritchard told the media after the game that fans have it wrong when it comes to their feelings towards the three.
"People didn't say that when we had a 3-1 lead," Pritchard told a reporter who asked if the team was too reliant on jumpshots. "We had good looks. If we hit them, then nobody says anything. That's the end of the story; you just have to make them.
"If you win a championship, you make shots. So..."
