PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi faced backlash for commenting on fuel shortages in India while Pakistan is experiencing its own energy crisis. His remarks coincided with the PSL 2026 matches being held without spectators due to fuel and security issues.
NEW DELHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has come under heavy criticism online after making claims about fuel shortages in India while Pakistan itself deals with a worsening energy crisis.
His remarks came at a time when PSL 2026 matches are being held without spectators due to fuel shortages and security concerns linked to tensions in the Middle East.
Fuel prices in Pakistan have risen sharply, over 40%, along with increasing electricity costs. These challenges have already impacted daily life and sporting events, including the Pakistan Super League.
Naqvi made the comments while speaking to the media about whether fans would be allowed back into stadiums.
He defended the situation by pointing to global conditions and said, “Today I discussed with PSL team owners and PSL teams. Even Karachi (Kings) have requested, so I will meet the PM and request him again about what is possible, but we need to understand what the scenario is in the world, the oil crisis."
He further added, “We have been working towards peace. We hope to have peace soon. The PM is also working towards that. We have a different stance. There is an oil crisis in India and there are long queues at petrol pumps in India."
His comments quickly triggered backlash, with many questioning their accuracy. In contrast, fuel prices in India have remained stable, and there have been no widespread shortages.
Social media users on both sides of the border have responded sharply. One wrote, “Mohsin Naqvi cancels PSL crowds citing Pakistan's fuel crisis — then claims India has long petrol queues while Pakistan doesn't. The PCB chief just contradicted his own tournament policy in the same breath. That's not strategy — that's confusion masquerading as leadership."
Mohsin Naqvi claimed there were fuel shortages in India, which led to significant criticism online.
The energy crisis in Pakistan has resulted in matches being held without spectators due to fuel shortages and security concerns.
