Connelly Early received a massive endorsement from a Boston Red Sox icon.
Pedro Martinez gushed over Early on the TBS pre-game show before the rookie southpaw started Tuesday's 4-0 loss to the New York Yankees. The Hall of Fame pitcher believes Early has unlimited potential.
"This guy can be lethal," Martinez said. "This kid has no ceiling right now."
Martinez commended Early's preparedness and eagerness to absorb as much information as he can before taking the mound.
"This kid is one of the smartest kids I've ever seen ... and he wants to know about everything," Martinez continued. "Believe me, he will study and pick my mind about some of the things that he needed to do."
The three-time Cy Young Award winner claimed that Early remains hungry to improve despite a promising start to his big-league career.
"What I see in him is a kid that doesn't settle," Martinez said. "Even though he had a great game, he wants to know why. He wants to know how. He wants to know about the hitters. He wants to read swings, which is one of the most important things for young pitchers out there.
