The Pittsburgh Penguins are excited for the Battle of Pennsylvania in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Pittsburgh is set to take on the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round, which will be a highly-anticipated matchup. Ahead of the matchup, Penguins forward Kevin Hayes expects it to be a very memorable series, especially with captain Sidney Crosby getting another chance to play the Flyers in the playoffs.
“It will be a memorable series,” Hayes said, via The Athletic. “Two absolutely wild fan bases, fans that are passionate. A lot of history for both teams. And, plus, you get a Sid-versus-the-Flyers series. That always helps.”
The Penguins and Flyers will be playing in the playoffs for the first time since the first round of the 2018 playoffs, which the Penguins won in six games. It will be the eighth matchup overall between the in-state rivals.
Ahead of the matchup, Penguins forward Connor Clifton believes it’s a good matchup for Pittsburgh.
“I think it’s a good matchup for us,” Clifton said.
Pittsburgh went 2-0-2 against the Flyers in the regular season, with both losses coming in a shootout.
