With space to fill on the roster, Penn State men's basketball has found another piece of the recruiting puzzle for the Class of 2026. Penn State has received a commitment from point guard Andy Gemao, from Toronto, Ontario in Canada. The addition of Gemao is Penn State's third international commitment in the Class of 2026.
Gemao is not rated as a recruit by 247Sports, but he was quick to act on his scholarship offer from Penn State head coach Mike Rhoades. Penn State reportedly extended a scholarship offer on Friday, May 8, and Gemoa accepted it on the same day.
While Penn State has made massive inroads in the transfer portal before signing Gemao, he is surprisingly their only commit in the Class of 2026. Playing his high school hoops in Canada and for the Philippines' U-19 squad, Gemao could have the requisite experience needed to elevate the Nittany Lions after yet another sub-500 season. He is also the third international player to commit to the Nittany Lions, joining French star Francois Wibaut and Croatian Roko Prkacin.
This continues a guard-heavy recruitment process for Rhoades and the Nittany Lions as Gemao is also the fourth guard they have added to the roster. However, his profile as a smaller, shiftier guard could offset the play style of some of Rhoades' transfer portal additions, who are more sharpshooters than slashers. Should Gemao develop as Rhoades expects, they could have a new floor general in Happy Valley capable of making them one of the conference's elite.
Gemao measures 6-1 and is coming off a senior season for Royal Crown. With the addition of Gemao, Penn State's recruiting class in the Class of 2026 currently ranks 137th in the nation.
Here is a look at Penn State's commitments for the Class of 2026, which is now up to three new members. All three players are from outside the United States, but two of them come with some European professional experience behind them.
Penn State is also set to welcome the following transfer players from the transfer portal...
