Penn State men's basketball has signed Brant Byers, a 6-foot-8 wing from Miami (Ohio), for the 2026-27 season. Byers, a Chambersburg native, was instrumental in Miami's undefeated 2025-26 season and has two years of eligibility left.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Penn State men's basketball coach Mike Rhoades announced the signing of sharp-shooting wing Brant Byers ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Byers, a Chambersburg native who was integral in Miami's undefeated 2025-26 regular season and was the 2024-25 Mid-American Conference freshman of the year, returns home to Pennsylvania with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"Brant is a proven winner and lights-out perimeter shooter who is an excellent fit at Penn State," Rhoades said. "His versatility and well-rounded skillset will make an immediate impact in our program. We're thrilled to get Brant back to Pa. and know he will represent Penn State well both on and off the court."
The 6-foot-8 wing comes to Penn State as a redshirt junior who spent the past three seasons at Miami (Ohio), the first of which was a redshirt season, and owns career marks of 770 points, 48.5 field goal percentage, 40.1 3-point percentage and a 77.6 free-throw percentage through two completed seasons.
He was the second-leading scorer on 2025-26 RedHawks team that put together an undefeated regular season, just the fifth Division I program this century to go undefeated during regular-season play. Byers' production helped Miami break into the top-25 national rankings for the first time since 1999 and set a program record with 32 wins.
Byers averaged 14.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 39.2% from 3-point range during 2025-26 slate, earning second-team all-district and second-team all-MAC honors.
He registered 27 double-digit scoring games during his redshirt sophomore season in 2025-26, including six 20-plus point efforts. Byers tallied 19 points and four rebounds in Miami's NCAA Tournament First Four win over Southern Methodist.
He averaged 8.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game while shooting 41.4% from 3-point range and 49.5% from the field in 2024-25, finishing third in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage.
Byers attended the Perkiomen School, helping lead the team to the 2023 Pennsylvania state championship. He won the U16 UAA championship with his AAU team.
Brant Byers has career marks of 770 points, a 48.5 field goal percentage, a 40.1 three-point percentage, and a 77.6 free-throw percentage.
Brant Byers is seen as a valuable addition due to his proven winning record, excellent shooting skills, and versatility, which are expected to make an immediate impact on the team.
Miami (Ohio) had an undefeated regular season in 2025-26, becoming only the fifth Division I program this century to achieve this feat and setting a program record with 32 wins.
